We tracked 293 décor and design terms in Google search for four years. The fastest riser, "butter yellow", went from 1,255 to 38,567 searches a month. The fastest fader, "coastal grandmother", fell 82%. The typical term is down 19%.
Stagingmate ResearchAverage monthly searches per term in each 12-month window and the change. Rankings use the 282 terms averaging 500+ searches a month in 2022–23, so tiny bases don't dominate.
Google reports rounded monthly search volumes, and very small volumes show as 10 or nothing, so small states and rare queries are noisy. Google may group close variants of a query. Search volume measures interest, not transactions. Some terms have meanings outside home design (for example "wabi sabi" or "pickleball court"), which inflates their counts. Most terms fell over the period, so the ranking is most useful for comparing terms with each other.
